Welcome to the Ala Wai Marina Committee Website
Mission Statement of the Ala Wai Marina Committee
To work within and cooperate with the policy making structure of the State of Hawaii for the purposes of improving recreational boating for all of the people of Hawaii and visiting sailors from around the world.
Note: Policy is established by the Governor, Legislature and the Department of Land and Natural

April 2001
SB 664 SD 1 (Community Based Management) bill overwhelmingly passed in the Senate. Special thanks to Dave Silvey, Reg White, Nick Paradiso, Gary O'Donnell and Susan Ray for testifying in support of the bill. Only Senator Lorraine Inouye voted against the bill. Unfortunately, two members of the marina board, Janet Mandrel and Bruce Middleton testified against the bill. For this reason the Chair of the Marina Board removed them from the board. Click here to see the letter. On April 5, 2001 the bill ended up as a letter of agreement between the Chair of the Dept. of Land and Natural Resource and Senator Rod Tam (who spearheaded the passage of the bill in the Senate). 2001 The Auditor's Report was supposed to be presented to the legislature on January 20, 2001. As of April 7 the report is still not available.
1998 The Auditor's Report on boating has just been released. The DOBOR's inability to conduct a viable boating program is an indication of over regulation, excessive rules, weak management, poor planning, lack of leadership,
bureaucratic gridlock, and ineffective fiscal controls. Please share the contents of the Auditor's Report on DOBOR (Dept. of Boating and Ocean Recreation) with other boaters. Click here to read the report.
